Outage

So… the power is out. Not cool. A mondo bonkers storm came out of nowhere and there’s a lot of freakish wind and rain outside. The power blipped in and out about a dozen times and then konked out altogether. It’s been out for about 45 minutes or so by this point. I don’t do well without electricity. Silence tends to weird me out and the only background noise at the moment (aside from the aforementioned wind and rain) is the sound of my fingers hitting the keys of my little bluetooth keyboard. Very spooky in here.

On top of the suckage of being without power is the fact that storms unnerve me. I lost a house to a tornado when I was younger, so anytime there’s a lot of wind and rain, I tend to get a bit nervous. I wasn’t a big fan of lightning and thunder prior to that, but the tornado certainly didn’t help matters. Hearing the emergency alert horn (which I always call the air raid siren) going off outside isn’t particularly comforting either because it’s generally the sound you’d hear to warn you of an impending tornado. It’s also nearly pitch black in my apartment at the moment. I’m not necessarily afraid of the dark, but mixed with the silence and the solitude, it’s definitely disconcerting. There’s something about being alone during a power outage that brings about that horror film vibe, you know? *shrugs*

On the upside, my phone (which I’m currently using to post this) was fully charged when the power ran out, and this keyboard runs on batteries (which I have a metric buttload of), so at least the magical Interwebs can keep me company until the boyfriend gets home. Well… unless he’s swept away by the current in the parking lot, or blown off course like someone flying a kite in a Looney Toons bit.

Catch you on the flip side, jive turkeys.
